PedEgg Accused Of Gross Injustice

Model couple sues over appearance in ubiquitous, revolting TV spot
From The Smoking Gun

JUNE 25--You're not the only one revolted by that ubiquitous commercial for the PedEgg, the low-rent foot care device hawked nonstop on cable TV. Two Florida foot models featured in the spot allege that they were duped into appearing in the commercials and claim that the PedEgg's manufacturer even applied "horror make-up" to one of their feet prior to shooting "before and after" footage. Married models Kelly Parks-Corso and Jonathan Corso allege that they were each paid a few hundred dollars for filming last year, but that they never negotiated a separate agreement covering the actual airing of the PedEgg commercials.

In a Florida Circuit Court lawsuit, a copy of which you'll find below, the Corsos allege that they were "shocked" to discover the "cheap, low quality" PedEgg commercial was being broadcast worldwide without their permission. The couple alleges that the commercial portrays them in a "negative light" and was supposed to be an "Internet-only infomercial." Instead, the ad "has now run all over the world," the complaint notes, and even can be seen playing on a loop in retail outlets like Bed Bath & Beyond, said Jonathan David, the Corsos's lawyer.

Prior to the July 2007 filming, a makeup artist added "artificial bumps and discoloration" to Kelly's feet in order to "make a 'before' shot for comparison in a 'before-and-after' scheme," the June 23 complaint charges. David told TSG that the makeup artist said that he exclusively did "horror makeup," which might be of concern to truth-in-advertising sticklers. Kelly Parks-Corso, who has long curly red hair, is seen at the commercial's outset putting on panty hose, and then later in the spot wearing a green skirt. Her husband is seen sitting on a couch. The Corsos each have appeared in a wide range of commercials for firms like Wal-Mart, Royal Caribbean, and Giorgio Armani, said David. Additionally, in 2003 they were contestants on CBS's "The Amazing Race," finishing second in the around-the-world reality show.

The Corsos's lawsuit, which does not specify monetary damages, accuses the PedEgg's manufacturer and the commercial's producers of unauthorized use of their names and likenesses, negligence, and fraud.

The lawsuit and commercial can be viewed her - http://www.thesmokinggun.com/archive/years/2008/0625083pedegg1.html?link=rssfeed
I've actually heard good things about the product and the commercial doesn't look as unsavory as they claim!

Michigan Man Accused Of Stabbing Mom With Fork and Attacking Woman With Frozen Chicken

(AP) A man was accused of stabbing his mother with a fork and assaulting a second woman with 10 pounds of frozen chicken. Frederick Duane McKaney, 40, of Ypsilanti, was arraigned Wednesday in 12th District Court in Jackson.

He faces two felony assault charges as well as one count of assault and battery and one count of resisting an officer. Prosecutors said McKaney stabbed his mother in the back of the neck with a fork Monday night. About an hour later, he hit a woman in the head with a plastic bag of frozen chicken. They had exchanged rude words while he rode his bicycle.

She needed five surgical staples to close her wound. McKaney has no attorney on record with the court. A pre-exam conference is scheduled for July 2.

Transgender Toilets in Bangkok High School

In Bangkok, Thailand there are separate bathrooms for teen boys who prefer to dress as girls at one rural high school. No more tough decisions about which toilet to take to or having to go to the teachers’ lounge.

The Kampang School in northeastern Thailand conducted a survey last term that showed more than 200 of the school’s 2,600 students considered themselves transgender, said school director Sitisak Sumontha. So, when classes resumed in May, the school unveiled a unisex restroom designated by a human figure split in half - part man in blue and part woman in red. Below it are the words “Transvestite Toilet.”

Three transgender students praised the new restroom as they plucked their eyebrows and applied face powder in front of the mirror outside the stalls. Most rural Thais are conservative in many ways, but the trailblazing toilet initiative at the school in northeastern Sisaket province reflects another aspect of Thai society: its tolerance of the country’s very visible transgender community. The term describes a wide range of identities including cross-dressers, transvestites, transsexuals and those born with the physical characteristics of both sexes.

Kampang is not Thailand’s first educational institution to set up unisex washrooms, though Sitisak said he believed it was a first for a secondary school. A 1,500-student technical college in the northern province of Chiang Mai set up a “Pink Lotus Bathroom” for its 15 transvestite students in 2003. Deputy Education Minister Boonlue Prasertsopar recently said the ministry plans to count the number of transgender university students.

He said he was not promoting transgender interests, “but if there are a lot of them in a university and it’s a problem, we may have to consider building toilets and dormitories for them.” Transgender’s are regularly seen on TV soap operas and throughout Bangkok, working at department store cosmetics counters, popular restaurants, in office jobs and in the capital’s red-light districts. Thailand also has transgender beauty pageants. I think a lot of those saying they consider themselves transgender are just doing it to be supportive.

Man Torches Car Because of Gas Hikes

(from chron.com)

BERLIN — A German man doused his BMW with gasoline and torched it on Friday in protest of skyrocketing fuel costs, police said.

The unemployed 30-year-old drove the 1995 BMW 3-series sedan onto the lawn outside Frankfurt's convention center, police spokesman Karlheinz Wagner said.

He then jumped out, emptied a canister of gas over the vehicle and set fire to it, Wagner said. By the time the fire department got to the scene, the car was entirely burned out.

The man, whose name was being withheld because he has not been charged with a crime, told police that gas prices were so high he could no longer afford to drive the vehicle.

Gasoline prices have risen steadily in Germany; a liter of regular gasoline now costs the equivalent of about $9.40 per gallon.

Wow...$9.40 per gallon for REGULAR? That is truly UNSAVORY!

This is TOO Easy!

I found this on a fellow blogger's page and I went into hysterics!

You Nasty Buzzard!

SINGAPORE (Reuters) - A Singapore man with a penchant for sniffing women's armpits was sentenced to 14 years in jail and 18 strokes of the cane for molesting his victims, a local newspaper reported Friday.

The 36-year-old, who the Straits Times said was mentally unstable, had previous convictions for drug and sex-related offences.

He molested 23 women over the course of 15 months, smelling their armpits and touching them in lifts, staircase landings and their homes, the paper said. He was caught after a housewife reported him to the police.

The court meted out the jail term, normally reserved for hardcore criminals, saying the man was likely to commit crimes again, the paper reported.

Caning on the buttocks is an additional punishment for male criminals in Singapore for offences ranging from vandalism to illegal possession of drugs and rape.

How to make a telemarketer quit their job!

This is HILARIOUS! The guy that recorded this call needs an award!

$360 billion=FAIL

This is absurd! What the hell are these people thinking?

An unsavory Texas dumb ass was arrested for allegedly trying to cash a check for $360 billion.
Charles Ray Fuller had said he wanted to start a record business, authorities in the state said.
The 21-year-old’s attempt to cash the money in a bank in Fort Worth failed when staff spotted the 10 zeros on the personal check. Mr Fuller was arrested on a charge of forgery and was released on $3,750 bail.

The man said he had been given the check by his girlfriend’s mother. The bank said it had contacted the account owner and had been told she had not given Mr Fuller permission to either take or cash the check.

Fort Worth police said Mr Fuller also faced charges of unlawfully carrying a weapon and possessing cannabis. Officers said a small amount of cannabis and a .25-calibre pistol were found in his pocket.

In October last year a man in the city of Pittsburgh was arrested after he handed over a counterfeit $1m bill to a cashier at a supermarket and asked for change.

Three years earlier a woman was arrested after trying to use a fake $1m bill at a supermarket in Georgia.

trying to use a $1m bill in Kroger=FAIL!

Stop being so damn cheap!

Okay, so they say the rich get richer by holding on to their money and spending wisely! I know gas is high and times are hard but really, have the rich had to result to enslaving people. Varsha Sabhanni, you are UNSAVORY!!!

N.Y. millionaire gets 11 years in prison for enslaving workers.

CENTRAL ISLIP, New York (AP) -- A millionaire who inflicted years of abuse on two Indonesian housekeepers held as virtual slaves in her Long Island mansion was sentenced Thursday to 11 years in prison.

Varsha Sabhnani, 46, was convicted with her husband in December on a 12-count federal indictment that included forced labor, conspiracy, involuntary servitude and harboring aliens.
The trial provided a glimpse into a growing U.S. problem of domestic workers exploited in slave-like conditions.

The victims testified that they were beaten with brooms and umbrellas, slashed with knives, and forced to climb stairs and take freezing showers as punishment. One victim was forced to eat dozens of chili peppers and then was forced to eat her own vomit when she couldn't keep the peppers down, prosecutors said.

U.S. District Judge Arthur Spatt called the testimony "eye-opening, to say the least -- that things like that go on in our country."

"In her arrogance, she treated Samirah and Enung as less than people," Assistant U.S. Attorney Demetri Jones said. "Justice for the victims, that's what the government is asking for."
Federal sentencing guidelines had recommended a range of 12 to 15 years in prison for Sabhnani, who was identified as the one who inflicted the abuse. In addition to prison, she will serve three years of probation and was fined $25,000.

"I just want to say that I love my children very much," the defendant told the court as two of her grown children looked on. "I was brought to this Earth to help people who are in need."
Mahender Sabhnani, 51, who is free on bail while awaiting his own Friday sentencing, wept as he watched his wife's punishment pronounced.

He was charged with the same crimes because he allowed the conduct to take place and benefited from the work the women performed in his home, prosecutors said. He is expected to receive a much shorter prison term.

Prosecutors contended that the accusations amounted to a "modern-day slavery" case. They said the maids were subjected to "punishment that escalated into a cruel form of torture," which ended in May 2007, when one of the women fled early on Mother's Day. She wandered into a Dunkin' Donuts wearing nothing but rags, and employees called police.

"This did not happen in the 1800s," Assistant U.S. Attorney Mark Lesko said during the trial. "This happened in the 21st century. This happened in Muttontown, New York."

The women, whose relatives in Indonesia were paid about $100 a month -- the women themselves received no cash -- said they were tortured and beaten for misdeeds that included sleeping late or stealing food from trash bins because they were poorly fed. Both women also said they were forced to sleep on mats in the kitchen.

Spatt postponed a decision on the amount of back wages owed to the women. Prosecutors suggested that the women were due more than $1.1 million, but defense attorneys said the figure should be much lower.

The couple also face fines and could be forced to forfeit their home, which is valued at almost $2 million. Mahender Sabhnani ran an international perfume business out of a home office.
One of the women arrived in the Sabhnanis' Muttontown home in 2002, the second in 2005. Their passports and other travel documents were immediately confiscated by the Sabhnanis, the women testified.

The defense, which intends to appeal, contended the two women concocted the story as a way of escaping the house for more lucrative opportunities. They also argued that the housekeepers practiced witchcraft and may have abused themselves as part of a self-mutilation ritual.
Defense attorney Jeffrey Hoffman said that 175 letters were submitted to the court detailing Sabhnani's charitable acts around the world. He called her "a woman who spent a lifetime doing good deeds."

Hoffman said that around 2004 or 2005, Sabhnani's weight plummeted from 325 pounds to 135. "She did it by starving herself," and that resulted in a chemical imbalance and significant malnourishment. "She had become a very different person."

"I think it's very harsh," Hoffman said after the sentencing. "She has suffered dramatically."

Dumb as a box of rocks!!!

I found this on another blog! I can't give total credit, because I don't know who it is- but hey, we believe in the "no plagarizing rule". So here's the credit!!!

Okay, so I don't know if this was someone's idea of a really bad joke, if someone really needs to go back and have a history lesson of the past twenty-five years or if someone is just plain racist, but WHOEVER allowed this to be posted on CNN's web site is a TOTAL JACKASS and dumb as a box of rocks!

Shaq Gets Fired On His Day Off!

PHOENIX (AP)—Shaquille O’Neal will lose his special deputy’s badge in Maricopa County because of language he used in a rap video that mocks former teammate Kobe Bryant.

Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio said the Phoenix Suns center’s use of a racially derogatory word and other foul language left him no choice. Arpaio made Shaq a special deputy in 2006 and promoted him to colonel of his largely ceremonial posse later that year.

“I want his two badges back,” Arpaio told The Associated Press on Tuesday. “Because if any one of my deputies did something like this, they’re fired. I don’t condone this type of racial conduct.”
Shaq was seen in a video posted on the celebrity news and gossip Web site TMZ.com rapping that “Kobe couldn’t do without me.” O’Neal skewers the Lakers’ star, with whom he won three straight NBA titles from 2000-2002 while with Los Angeles, for not being able to win a championship without him.

“I was freestyling. That’s all. It was all done in fun. Nothing serious whatsoever,” O’Neal told ESPN.com Monday. A call to the Suns on Tuesday seeking comment from O’Neal was referred to his public relations firm, which didn’t immediately respond.

Arpaio, who describes himself as “America’s Toughest Sheriff” and is best known for feeding jail inmates green bologna, clothing them in pink underwear, and making them work on chain gangs, said he didn’t expect his actions would teach Shaq a lesson. But he hoped he learns that as a role model who wants to someday be a full-time sheriff, he needs to know his words matter.

“Maybe I’m old fashioned, but I don’t think that either conduct should be out there publicly, even if media wasn’t there,” Arpaio said.

O’Neal previously served as a reserve officer with the Miami Beach Police Department while playing for the Miami Heat. He also volunteered with the Tempe Police Department after being traded to the Suns in February.

Woman Dead for 42 Years Before Someone Noticed

I know it is so cruel to laugh at this story, but really...........how does something like this happen! UNREAL AND UNSAVORY!!!

Woman Dead for 42 Years Before Someone Noticed
Jun 23rd 2008
By Tom Radler

We're not sure what was on TV in 1966 in the former Yugoslavia, but it was the last thing seen by a woman whose remains have only recently been found.

Hedviga Golik, who was born in 1924, was discovered by police in the Croatian capital of Zagreb, long-dead and sitting in her armchair in front of her black-and-white television.

The deceased had been reported missing 42 years ago, and neighbors say they thought she had moved away to live with relatives. Oddly though, the police only recently broke in to try to determine who owned the apartment and they still have not figured out how the woman could have been reported missing so long ago without anyone checking the residence.

"When officers went there, they said it was like stepping into a place frozen in time," a police spokesman said. "The cup she had been drinking tea from was still on a table next to the chair she had been sitting in ... Nothing had been disturbed for decades, even though there were more than a few cobwebs in there."

A neighbor, fittingly, remembered Golik as "a quiet woman who kept herself to herself."

Vt. inmates take state to court over unsavory Nutraloaf

This news is a bit dated but I couldn't resist! Personally, I'd rather eat pet food! There is just something so gross about the word'loaf' Enjoy :o)

MONTPELIER March 23, 2008 (Boston Globe) - Savory it isn't: It's made of whole wheat bread, nondairy cheese, raw carrots, spinach, seedless raisins, beans, vegetable oil, tomato paste, powdered milk, and dehydrated potato flakes.

To prison officials, it's a complete meal. To inmates, it's a food so awful, they'd rather go hungry than eat it.

In the latest legal battle over the prison cafeteria standard known as Nutraloaf, the Vermont Supreme Court is being asked to decide whether it's punishment or a method of behavior modification.

On Monday, the court will hear arguments in a class-action suit brought by inmates who say it's punishment and that anyone subjected to it should get a formal disciplinary process first.

"It's commonplace in other states as a way of providing nutrition in a mechanism that dissuades inmates from throwing feces, urine, trays, and silverware," said Corrections Commissioner Rob Hofmann.

"It tends to have the desired outcome," Hofmann said. "Once the offender relents, we stop with the Nutraloaf. That's our goal, to protect our staff and not have them subjected to behavior that the average Vermonter would find incomprehensible."

Seth Lipschutz, an attorney with Vermont's Prisoner's Rights office, says the state has a legitimate interest in changing the behavior of inmates who misbehave.

But he says a diet of Nutraloaf is punishment, plain and simple. To call it anything else is "playing with words to get what they want. It's wrong and it's sad," he said.

"If it's punishment, you've got to follow the rules," Lipschutz said. "Even in prison you get a little bit of due process."

Nutraloaf and its equivalents have been used for decades in prisons across the country. In 1978, the US Supreme Court ruled that a substance used in Arkansas known as " 'grue' might be tolerable for a few days and intolerably cruel for weeks or months."

Since then, there have been numerous legal cases involving Nutraloaf or its equivalents. The Michigan Department of Corrections was involved in one of those cases, in which a federal judge ruled in 1988 that the use of Nutraloaf is punishment.

Now, Michigan inmates are only given Nutraloaf after going through the disciplinary process that lands them in segregation, said Department Spokesman Russ Marlan.

Occasionally, The National Prison Project of the American Civil Liberties Union gets complaints about Nutraloaf from inmates, but it hasn't been involved in the group's litigation in years.

"Our position is that it shouldn't be used unless a violation has to do with food. It shouldn't be used as punishment," said Jody Kent, the Prison Project's public policy coordinator.

Vermont Assistant Attorney General Kurt Kuehl, who will argue the case for the Department of Corrections, said the other legal cases involving food loaf centered on whether the food was so bad it constituted cruel and unusual punishment. The courts have ruled it isn't, he said.

But the Vermont case is different because the use of Nutraloaf isn't punishment, according to the state. Kuehl says it is as if a correctional officer were to find an inmate with a knife. He wouldn't have to hold a hearing to take the knife away.

"It's taking an administrative action to protect the facility," said Kuehl.

Afterward, the inmate can be subject to a separate disciplinary hearing for the conduct that led to being fed Nutraloaf.

Idiot Imus Strikes Again...

A little over a year after being fired for making what were perceived as racist and sexist comments about the Rutgers women's basketball team, Don Imus is courting controversy again over a potentially racist remark made about an athlete.

When sports host Warner Wolf explained that Adam "Pacman" Jones — who was suspended in 2007 following a Last Vegas nightclub shooting incident — had been arrested six times, Imus asked, "What color is he?"

A slightly confused Wolf responded, "He's African American."

Imus then said, "Well, there you go. Now we know."

Full transcript, via AOL sports, below:

Wolf: "Defensive back Adam 'Pacman' Jones, recently signed by the Cowboys. Here's a guy suspended all of 2007 following a shooting in a Vegas night club."

Imus: "Well, stuff happens. You're in a night club, for God's sake. What do you think's gonna happen in a night club? People are drinking and doing drugs, there are women there, and people have guns. So, there, go ahead."

Wolf: "He's also been arrested six times since being drafted by Tennessee in 2005."

Imus: "What color is he?"

Wolf: "He's African-American."

Imus: "Well, there you go. Now we know."

My suggestion: Someone please take that 10 gallon hat and hold in front of his mouth...to catch all the BULLSHIT that comes out! Dude, seriously...you're an idiot and you're OLD!

Unsavory Office Conversations

This is a REAL conversation that was overheard in an office today:

Setting the scene - Lady sharing a story about her adult son (almost 30 years old) who still lives with his parents:

“I gave my son some money and he told me he was going to cut the grass and then he disappeared. Then he yelled at me and told me he would fu&*ing do it tomorrow and to fu&*ing leave him alone! I asked him to do it because his father was going to go out there and do it and I think he has diabetes!"

I'm not certain I would have shared that...Very unsavory and VERY embarrassing.

RWI - Rolling While Intoxicated

BRISBANE, Australia -- A man found asleep in a motorized wheelchair on a highway in northern Australia was charged with drunk driving, police said Monday.

Officers in a patrol car noticed the man slumped in the stationary chair about 10 a.m. Friday on an exit lane near the tourist city of Cairns, regional traffic Inspector Bob Waters said. Cars were swerving to get around him, Waters said.

The officers breath-tested the 64-year-old man, who registered a blood alcohol reading of 0.301 - more than six times the legal driving limit. He was charged with operating a vehicle while drunk and ordered to report to court on July 7, where he faces a stiff fine if convicted.

"The vehicles that we normally hear about with drink driving are the family car, the truck, the motorbike," Waters said. "But there are also other classes of vehicles that are subject to drink-driving laws," including horses, bicycles, and motorized wheelchairs.

The man, whose name was not released, told police he was making a nine-mile trip from his home to a friend's place, Waters said.

"He placed himself in a very dangerous situation," he said.

A Tribute to Enemas

MOSCOW, Russia (AP) --

A monument to the enema, a procedure many people would rather not think about, has been unveiled at a spa in the southern Russian city of Zheleznovodsk. The bronze syringe bulb, which weighs 800 pounds and is held by three angels, was unveiled at the Mashuk-Akva Term spa, the spa's director said Thursday.

"There is no kitsch or obscenity, it is a successful work of art," Alexander Kharchenko told The Associated Press. "An enema is almost a symbol of our region."

The Caucasus Mountains region is known for dozens of spas where enemas with water from mineral springs are routinely administered to treat digestive and other complaints.

Kharchenko, 50, said the monument cost $42,000 and was installed in a square in front of his spa on Wednesday. A banner declaring: "Let's beat constipation and sloppiness with enemas" — an allusion to a line from "The Twelve Chairs," a famous Soviet film comedy — was posted on one of the spa's walls.

Sculptor Svetlana Avakina said she designed the 5-foot-high monument with "irony and humor" and modeled the angels on those in works by Italian Renaissance painter Alessandro Botticelli.

"This device is eternal, it will never change," she told the AP. "We could promote this brand, turn it into a franchise with souvenirs and awards for medical doctors."

Dozens of monuments dedicated to characters from tall tales and popular jokes have been erected in post-Soviet Russia.
